Have you ever thought about what design is? From a designer’s perspective, when you break it down to its core it’s problem-solving! Problem solving with tools such as illustration, typography, and photography. Every project is based on the need to provide visual communication from your entity to your target market. Where graphic design comes into the picture is in the visual representation of images and text combined with ideas to communicate a message, and my job is to figure out how to do that!
Graphic design is essential in numerous applications:
- Corporate design (logos and branding)
- Editorial design (magazines, newspapers and books)
- Web Design
- Communication Design
- Product Packaging
So why should businesses make graphic design a priority? It doesn’t matter if you are a startup, a small business, or even a sprawling corporation: First impressions matter!
You only have one chance to make a first impression. Whether it’s a logo, business card, or a website… A potential client will judge and retain or dismiss what they see in a few first seconds. To clients, perception is reality! High-quality graphic design gives businesses credibility. Visual design has to leave a positive lasting impression on the minds to your clients/consumers. It is especially important to have a professional design that makes your business to stand out among the crowd. No matter how great your product or service is, with poor design people will often choose your competition.
Branding makes a company memorable by reinforcing a consistent message. Customers and clients should have the same feeling and experience visiting a company’s website as they do reading its brochure. A professional graphic designer will implement the same fonts, colors, and images – to span all facets of your company to make the whole branding memorable.
Skimping on professional design can ultimately be very expensive. It is a missed opportunity. Think about it; if you opt for a cheap and amateur or superficial design, how well would you be able to sell your product or services? Consider when you go to a store, you will choose to buy what looks the best, right? Often at a premium price. Nike would not be Nike without their famous logo. Starbucks coffee, Apple… their brand is consistent, professional, and design is impeccable. The message is as important as the products.
Suffice to say that customers and clients are looking for professionalism to convince them to try your products/services. They want to see that you can be trusted. Think of it like the first review on an Amazon product page, graphic design is the first impression and therefore subconsciously, the first review in your mind.
Creative, professional, consistent. Memorable design separates you from your competition.
