A logo can be designed in just a few minutes. But, what kind of logo are you looking for? Businesses need one that is timeless and professional.
Here I will explain the logo design process step-by-step and how long it takes for each step.
Logo design is the most important part of a company’s branding. A logo is one face of the company and a big part of its identity, and thus it should be well conceived and designed thoughtfully.
The logo design process usually involves both the designer and client. The designer should gather as much information as he can from the client, including, of course:
- The name of the company
- Its slogans
- The type of industry
- The company’s competitors
- Its target market

Once a designer has all the information he needs, he will research what type of logo would stand out and be best for the company. A logo designer should study the company’s competitors and determine what they have in common. It could be a color that is used most often, a certain typography, or a logo style.
Let’s take color, for example. If the company’s competitors all use blue, a designer has to ask, Why blue? What’s the meaning behind it? Also, is it light or dark blue? Or bright blue? And why? What does it connote in the business? Further, how do people react to that color? Is it related to the company’s services or products? Researching these sorts of questions, along with the company’s competitors, the products or services the company offers, and why it’s different than other companies, can take up to a week.
When a designer finishes his research, he will then brainstorm how to make the company stand out through a new logo design. He will:
- Do sketches
- Make drawings
- Look for inspiration
- Find an appropriate logo shape
- Determine suitable typography
This usually takes a few days. Once he has enough sketches (the number depends on the designer), he will choose a few of the best ones and convert them to vectors. This shouldn’t take more than a day.
Next, these logo designs will be presented to the client. Everything else depends on the client’s feedback and the designer’s communication with the client. There is no specific time required for designing a logo, but most of the time designers try to do it in about 2 weeks.
